Retrospect on the 1st International Erich Bergel Competition
The very first edition of the International Erich Bergel Conducting Competition took place in Târgu Mureș at the small concert hall and the great concert hall of the Palatul Culturii from September 2-8, 2022. The competition has been organized by Cadenza Music Management, Asociatia "Robi & Norbi", in partnership with the Consiliul Judetean Mures, and the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Târgu Mureș. Out of 180 initial applicants from 39 countries, 71 conductors competed.
The jury comprised conductors and musicians from various countries:
• Csiky Boldizsár (Romania), Târgu Mureș State Philharmonic, former director, composer
• György Levente (Romania), Târgu Mureș State Philharmonic, director
• Benjamin Levy (France), Orchestre National de Cannes, music director
• Pál Lajos (Hungary), Kiev Academy of Music, graduate conductor and teacher
• Radu Popa (Romania), "Banatul" Timisoara Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor
• Alfonso Scarano (Italy), Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra; chief conductor
• Hamar Zsolt (Hungary), Liszt Ferenc Academy Budapest, laureate conductor
